El Fin

You never really know how much you are going to miss someone until the people you are going to miss are gone from your lives. This is how i feel now that the Kipevu Primary kids are gone from our lives. Its not that they are officially gone, but the chances of seeing them again are very small (unless I come back next year).

So saying goodbye was really difficult as the students handed us final letters of goodbye.

The closing ceremonies were just as extravagant as the opening and i wish i could write more, but we have limited computer time.

Asante Sana

So this is Day 4 and we just finished another great dinner here in AKAM. But before that we went to finally explore the area aroudn the AKAM compound with Mr. Campanella. A few of us stayed behind at the school, but most of us went and looked at the little shops and street vendors that lined the beautiful coast. The water was a deep dark blue and the waves were less than five meters away from the viewing ledges. The culture here is so relaxed that there were people just sitting on rocks that faced the water, probably having contemplative moments staring out at the ocean.

Oh Canada

Jambo!

Today is day 3 in Kipevu Primary school and we visited around the classrooms and got to talk to a lot of the students and the teachers. We visited Class 8,7,6 in that order and after that we went to the choir practice.

It is so interesting how they teach their classes! Most of the time in SH we learn with a very comfortable dynamic between the teacher and the student. A lot of times we are free to speak when we want. However, even for the oldest students (Grade 8s) they are very strict and rigid between students and teachers.

Day 1.5

Hey everyone!

Hope school/ exams/ camp went well for you students and if you are a teacher I hope marking and report cards went well :)

Two days ago we landed in Amsterdam and spent a few amazing hours wandering and exploring the magical city. Yesterday we landed in Nairobi then made our way to Mombasa by a smaller plane.

Nuevas Fronteras

Language is a barrier that people must overcome every time they travel to a new country. En Canada, es una problema y un beneficio. La mayoria de las personas en Canada tienen una segunda idioma. Hopefully in Kenya, we wont be speaking only in English because their other official language is Swahili.
En un nueva pais es importante que sumerga nosotros mismos en la cultura del pais.
