Books!

I bought some nice looking used books today on Main street from the used book store near my apartment.  Many are hard-covers and small, so they should withstand use in a primary school of 900 students--I hope!

While an ideological goal of our trip is to present ourselves as not merely "the people who bring gifts", but to create a meaningful, human relationship with another group of students, I think these will make great library resources and I'd hate to pass up a great find like "Dogs Working For People" (1972).  I also found some great Native American myth picture books and a David Macauley architecture book on Mosques--perfect!

I hope more people come on board with other books or school supplies to make sure that our group can max out the baggage restrictions.  If not, then I am looking forward to working with the staff to figure out what else they might need from shops in Mombasa.  I wonder if that's cheaper that buying used hard-covers here.... hmmm.   I'll have to hit up the Salvation Army or Value VIllage soon to see if there are any other good deals.
