Festivities and Hospitality Record 3
Hamjambo!
Monday morning we all got ready for our first day at KP. Before we piled into the vans, we were told we would not be going straight to KP, but instead be stopping off at the Municipal Offices.
The reason we did this was because we were invited to be welcomed by the M.E.O. (Municipal Education Officer) and the Mayor of Mombasa. We started with the M.E.O., and were welcomed into his office and his entire team came in as well. It was seem that formal welcomes are very important; each person in the office made a formal speech welcoming us (I don't know if I've ever heard so many "Feel at home!"s in my entire life). We also signed a visitor's book everywhere we went.
While these meetings were uncomfortably political, it was still a very nice gesture and so welcoming! Is it any wonder that the second word I learned in Kiswahili was "Karibu" (Welcome)? [the first being Asante Sana (Thank you very much)]
Next, the opening ceremonies at Kipevu Primary!
