First Day!
Wow! I can't believe it has only been two days. All in one day we have done so much and seen so much it feels like a lifetime.
The whole process of getting here was an adventure in and of itself. 9 hours x 2 with the first two legs, and then a hop to Mombasa, where we saw monkeys as we got off the plane.
There is so much to say and remark about culture differences, but I think those are best explained with personal experience, as they are verbalised in a very unique manner depending on the individual.
There is one really unique idea that has really brought together the IB component of the trip, and that, as strange as it may sound, did not have something to do with Kipevu.
As we have been working at Kipevu, we have also been staying at AKAM, as sharing their meals. I have had such a great chance to meet some of their DP1s, and that was a really cool part of the experience.
Here's the scenario:
Imagine going across the world, to a totally foreign nation, sitting down with students whose first languages range from Kisswahili to Gujarthi to the local tougnes, and talking about the exact same project that you are doing in school!
This was the feeling that I got, when I was able to use the IB hexagon as an Ice-breaker.
"What are you doing for Group three?" "What do you do for CAS?" "What are your HLs?" "What are you doing your ToK pres. on [thiers are next monday--we may watch?] ?"
Sharing such a big aspects of our lives, school, is really one on the unexpected perks of this trip.
Many perks came in many different shapes and sizes--- I'll save another for another day.
Kwaheri!
