My Thoughts so Far

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been blogging, but when I tried to do one yesterday, the computer shut down on me.

Today was very exhausting, but still fun. We went to individual classes to both listen in on how the students are taught, and also to play some games with the Kipevu kids. They really enjoyed us singing "This World is our World" and learning how to sing it as well. Afterwards, some teachers and parents showed us where they live, and we went into the slums and walked around. It was such an eye-opener so see where the students are coming from, and I was amazed that as we walked through, everyone was so happy and welcoming. I didn't realize how large the area was, and how many people lived in one home (about 30 they said!).

This trip seems to get more fantastic and rewarding every day. The first couple of days were challenging, because everything was so different and out of my comfort zone. But the Kipevu students, parents, Mr. Kombo (the principal) and Hemed have been so unbelievably generous, and no money can buy what they have done for us. I am still amazed that these parents, some who have next to nothing, still take time to cook a feast for us everyday. Everyone always asks us how we are doing, if we need water etc, so we feel very much at home.

I also enjoy staying at the Aga Khan academy, right now I am writing in their library (which has air conditioning!!). All the students are very kind, and we talk to them during breakfast and dinner.

The thing I am most suprised about is the spirit of all the Kipevu students, teachers, and parents. I have only seen them smile since we came.

So, I need to get ready to go to a Chinese restaurant now. I hope that we can try putting photos up, or at least send them to the school. We have so many!

-Meg (PS: I'm really looking forward to the Aga Khan Graduation this saturday, and the Safari next week! However, saying bye to Kipevu is going to be really hard.)
